Holidays in Larnaca: attractions of the resort

What attractions await tourists who are planning a holiday in Larnaca? Which beach to relax on? What Larnaca has prepared for tourists, we will tell in our article.

The Cypriot resort of Larnaca is a descendant of the great Thracian city of Kition, which was once a powerful cultural and commercial center. Then the city gradually began to decline, and its greatness was lost. Only under the Ottoman Turks did Larnaca begin to revive its former glory as a trading city, and in 1975 the city again became an important center and air gateway for the Republic of Cyprus. Nowadays, Larnaca is a major tourist center of Cyprus, where you can comfortably relax, have fun and enrich yourself culturally by visiting local attractions.

Those who like to travel by car usually book a car in Cyprus online in advance. In Larnaca, renting a compact car will cost from 11 euros per day, and Ayia Napa little more cheaper - from 10 euros per day. Prices may vary depending on the season, car class and rental period.

In Larnaca, the religious trace of history is very developed, because there are both Christian shrines and Muslim ones. The latter include two mosques - the Jami Kebir mosque and the Hala-Sultan-Tekke mosque. By the way, the Hala-Sultan-Tekke mosque is known all over the world. Her appearance is similar to the creation of Allah himself. This mosque has the fourth significance for Muslims. Around the mosque there is a luxurious garden with fountains and a wishing well. Nowadays, the mosque is accessible to everyone, and prayer ceremonies are held there only twice a year.

The Jami Kebir Mosque is the heart of the Muslim history of the city. The minaret of the mosque is so high that it is clearly visible from all over Larnaca. Of the Christian centers of religion, it is worth highlighting: the Church of St. Lazarus, the Church of Asha Jacobs, the Church of Angeloktistos in Kiti, as well as the beautiful Church of Asha Faneromani. The Asha-Faneromani Church was built in an exquisite Byzantine style, and ancient burials were discovered under the building itself. The excavations of the graves continue to this day. The monastery of St. Thekla, a disciple of the Apostle Peter, also enjoys attention.

The walls of the monastery have amazing healing properties, as many visitors to the monastery recovered after visiting this wonderful place. This phenomenon still no one can explain. Only legends speak of a healing underground spring passing under the monastery of St. Thekla.

Holidays in Larnaca: what to visit?

If you are going to spend your holidays in Larnaca, visit 3 interesting museums: the Pieridis Museum, the Byzantine Museum of the Church of St. Lazarus, the Archaeological Museum of Larnaca. The Archaeological Museum presents many exhibits from ancient times. Almost all antiquities presented in the museum were found in Larnaca and its environs. Today, this Cypriot museum has one of the most interesting collections in Cyprus.

From an architectural and historical point of view, ancient Kition is an amazing place. The ruins of this ancient city serve as a living memory of biblical times, as the city is mentioned in the Bible. The entire excavation area of the ancient city has been turned into a continuous museum where visitors get acquainted with the architecture and lifestyle of the ancient Thracians and Mycenaeans. Also interesting places are the monastery of Stavrovupi, located on the top of a steep mountain, and the Kamares aqueduct. The length of this majestic structure is more than 10 kilometers.

In the village of Mazotis there is another favorite place for tourists - a camel farm. This farm has become not only a place where you can admire the "ships of the desert", but also an amusement park for children. On the territory of the farm there are: a large swimming pool, game rooms, a bouncy castle and many other entertainments. There is a luxurious beach not far from the farm.

Rest in Larnaca means visiting interesting places. One of them is the picturesque village of Perivola. This place with a population of only a couple of thousand people during the holiday season is visited by tens of thousands of tourists! And all thanks to the excellent opportunity to admire the true local architecture. Excursions to Perivola are one of the most popular excursions in Cyprus.

One of the best places for a beach holiday in Larnaca is Kimon promenade. This place is very similar to the promenade of Nice, as the wide avenue separating the beach and the city serves as a place for walking and holding various festivals and concerts. And exquisite palm plantations hide vacationers from the hot Cypriot sun.

So, Larnaca is an excellent resort for those who do not like to sit still. Undoubtedly, there is something to see here!
