Tallinn received the status of the Green Capital of Europe
Although 2023 is still far enough away, the competition for the title of the Green European Capital of 2023 has already taken place. As a result, this title was given to Estonian Tallinn, which managed to bypass Gothenburg (Sweden), Krakow (Poland) and Sofia (Bulgaria).
Car rental in advance in Estonia is also profitable. You can compare rates online and receive up to 70% discount for rental. For example, rental in Tallinn airport you can book a car from 11 euros per day, in Tallinn downtown you can book a car from 10 euros per day.
The cities that made it to the finals were traditionally assessed by an international jury, which includes an expert from the field of sustainable development. The main criterion for participation in the competition is the city's population of over 100 thousand people. The jury evaluated the candidates according to more than 10 criteria: environmental biodiversity, water and air quality, sustainable land development, introduction of green public transport, and so on.
Tallinn received marks from "4" to "5" according to all criteria. Local authorities are actively fighting for the purity of water bodies, preservation of biodiversity, spare no effort and money for the development of "environmentally friendly" transport and strive for "sustainable" land use.
In addition, residents of the Estonian capital are constantly attracted to participate in green initiatives. Note that the title of the current Green Capital is the city of Lahti (Finland), and in 2022 this proud title will be borne by Grenoble (France). The title "Green Capital of Europe" has been awarded annually by the European Commission since 2011.
