Road transport in the UK

In Britain, the car is god and king. The number of car owners is large - at last count, the number of cars in private use is 22 million. Roads, especially in the south-east of Britain, are the busiest on the European continent.

For a comfortable trip, many tourists prefer to use car rental services in the UK. The average cost of renting a car in London City Airport is 20 euros per day, in Manchester the cost of renting is the same as at the airport, although usually renting at the airport is cheaper.

Britain has an extensive road network. Travel on almost all roads is free, but standing in traffic jams has long been an integral part of British life. In recent years, the government, in an effort to solve the problem of congestion, instead of expanding highways (which only contributes to their greater congestion), began to introduce toll roads.

It is difficult to say whether, under the current conditions, the necessary investments will be made in the development of public transport so that it becomes an efficient and inexpensive replacement for cars. While the British are trying to transfer to public transport, raising fuel prices (in Britain, gasoline is more expensive than in most other countries of the world).

As for the behavior of the British on the roads, it is consistent with the prevailing stereotype about them. It is customary in the country to show courtesy and respect to other road users, and any sign of rude behavior can cause rage and resentment.

Serious manifestations of "highway rage" do not occur often, although many have a different opinion on this subject, since it is common for the media to inflate the hype around particularly scandalous cases of assault.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited. Extremely severe sanctions are applied to violators.
