The district’s main attractions include Fatahillah Square (also known as Taman Fatahillah), the Jakarta History Museum and the Wayang Museum. These are great places to explore for anyone interested in learning more about Indonesia’s history and colonial influences.

Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa
Located at the mouth of River Ciliwung, Sunda Kelapa is Jakarta's old port. It is also the site of the city's first fort, built by the Dutch East Indies Company.
The harbour is filled with rows of traditional sailing boats that are known as 'pinisi' and they offer wonderful photo opportunities. These schooners are part of Jakarta's history and they are still used to carry cargo between various islands.
But the harbour is not just about beautiful scenery, it's a place where a lot of life happens. There are small boats anchored along the pier and groups of people crouched by the water's edge smoking.
If you're looking to get a different perspective on this busy urban area, take a boat tour of the harbour. This will give you a better picture of what Sunda Kelapa is really like.

Jin De Yuan Buddhist Temple
Jin De Yuan Buddhist Temple is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Indonesia. Founded in 1650, the temple draws followers of both Chinese and Confucian beliefs.
Inside, a plethora of effigies and statues fill the main hall, while worshippers chant and offer incense. At the far back of the temple, a giant swirling incense floats from the ceiling.
In 1755, a Chinese captain restored the temple and renamed it Jin De Yuan. It is now home to eighteen Buddhist monks.
The temple compound was badly damaged by a fire in 2015, but the complex has been reopened under new management led by Tan Adi Pranata. Ahead of this year’s Chinese New Year, lanterns illuminate the area. The complex is a reminder of the Chinese community’s long presence in Jakarta. It is a must-see for those looking for a cultural touchstone.
