Is it obligatory to have an international driving licence?

Within the framework of the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, member countries recognise national driving licences without the need to obtain an international one.

The list of countries that have acceded to the 1968 Vienna Convention:

ATTENTION! If there is an indication in your leaflet that an international driving licence is required, the rental company may refuse to give you a car in case of absence of such licence, and penalties may be imposed (Even though the national driving licence is recognised as legitimate in the selected country). We recommend that you print out the Vienna Convention in English and take it with you to prevent disputes on the roads and in a car rental point. In other countries, you may also be given a car when presenting a national driving licence, but we recommend you to get an international driving licence in order to avoid trouble with rental and with local police. Rental in such cases is at your own risk.

Is it possible for under 21's to rent a car?

In general, rental services are for individuals no younger than 21 years old. Some of our partners rent cars to drivers aged 19 and over, but at an additional charge. The amount of the additional charge for "young drivers" is indicated in the rental terms (rate details).

Is it possible to rent a car for less than 1 day?

The minimum rental period is 24 hours. You may return the car earlier as well, but it will not affect the rental price in any way; you will be charged the full price of 1 day's rental.

Where can I find the office of the selected rental company?

If you are going to collect a car at the airport, pay attention to the location of the office of the rental company. If you are going to collect a car at the airport, the search results will indicate "in the terminal." If the office is located outside the airport, the search results will indicate "shuttle bus." The shuttle bus is always free and is provided directly by the rental company. Usually, the office is no more than a 5 minute drive from the airport. In any case, the phone number and exact address of the local office will be indicated in your leaflet.

What should I do, if I cannot return the rental car before the deadline?

Standard conditions are as follows: you will have to pay 60% of the daily rental if you return the car within 12 hours after the rental deadline. If you have not returned the rental car 12 hours after the rental deadline, you will have to pay the full daily rate. In addition, you should inform us about the delay. If you do not inform us of the delay, the rental company may take emergency measures (for example, put the car on the wanted list). Try to calculate the car rental period in advance.

Can I cross the border of a country where I rented a car?

In most cases, you may safely cross borders of neighbouring countries in a rented car. But exceptions are also not uncommon; consult the Border Crossing section.

Travel Restrictions
Do I have to pay additional local fees?

In order for you not having to think about additional costs, we, the cars-scanner service, provide car rental services on an all-inclusive basis where you may see the final fixed price. But there is a short list of countries where an additional licence or contract fee, or state tax may be levied. Information about such fees and taxes will be provided by the rental company. However, you may choose options that are not included in the basic rental package, for example, a child seat or additional ski equipment storage. You will find out their price in advance and will be able to pay on website, at the rental company office.

I lost my booking number or voucher. What should I do?

Do not worry. You can just contact our operator by email or phone, and we will send you a copy of the voucher or restore your booking number.

Can I modify/cancel my reservation?

You may find the cancellation form on our website. Standard conditions provides the following cancellation rules:

  •  24 hours free cancellation before the start of the rental time
  • 50 EUR charge for cancellation less than 24 hours
  • The total rental price is to be paid when you attempt to cancel from the time of the rental start.

Please note that some special offers may change the cancellation policy; carefully read the terms and conditions to plan your vacation well.

How much fuel will be in my rental car?

Usually a rental car is rented with a full tank in all countries and must be returned with the same amount of fuel. The shortage of fuel is to be paid by a renter according to supplier’s rates.

What is the difference between the cars-scanner and other auto brokers?

Can I receive a vehicle outside working hours?
Yes, you can. However, keep in mind that the car hire company may charge additional fees during off hours.
Returning the car during off hours.
If you are returning the car at the airport, please park it at the parking lot belonging to your car rental company and put the keys in a special box labelled “FOR KEYS”.
How soon will my security deposit be unlocked?
Unlocking or refunding the security deposit depends on the terms of the rental company and is usually done within 30 working days. To ensure that your security deposit is unlocked as early as possible, you can contact your bank and the bank may now decide when. You can also contact the office of the company where you hired the car.

To ensure your rental is the most comfortable, we always recommend a full insurance policy. You may do this either on our website or directly at the rental company office.

Each car has its own set of features, which are indicated in the insurance document. Be careful when taking it and read through the Insurance Cover section to insure yourself against further surprises.  Example:

Violations and fines
Be sure to check the local traffic regulations and fines. Fines for exceeding the speed limit and for prohibited driving to downtown are issued late. In such cases, the rental company may deduct the required amount from your security deposit or require you to pay a fine.
What cards cars-scanner accepts for payment?

You can use your credit and debit cards – VISA, MasterCard, Delta, and American Express – to pay for your booking in advance.

Be sure to pay attention to the “payment method” section in the rental terms. In some cases, a credit card owned by the driver may be required at the time of receiving the car. Please be informed that the majority of debit cards are actually credit cards with zero credit limit. Such a card would be sufficient provided that it has a positive balance enough to lock the security deposit. To find out whether your card is a credit or debit card, you can send us the last 6 digits of its number, or directly contact your bank.
