Local know-how

Driving in Liverpool

Mersey tunnel tolls

The Queensway and Kingsway tunnels under the Mersey charge a toll for cars, paid at the plaza or with a Fast Tag. Allow for it if you're heading to the Wirral or North Wales.

Mersey Gateway Bridge

The bridge between Runcorn and Widnes has no toll booths: pay online with Merseyflow by midnight the day after you cross, or you'll be fined. Many hire firms pass fines on with an admin fee.

Parking

Large multi-storey car parks such as Liverpool ONE and those around the Albert Dock are the easiest option. On-street bays are mostly Pay & Display - check the signs for hours and limits.

Traffic

Expect queues on the Strand along the waterfront and on main routes out of the city at rush hour, and around Anfield and Goodison on match days.
