Local know-how
Coventry's inner ring road is short, raised in places and has closely spaced junctions with brief slip roads. The junctions are numbered, so check which one you need before joining and move into the correct lane early.
The M6 passes the north of the city, the M69 heads to Leicester and the A46 runs south to Warwick and Stratford. The M40 towards Oxford and London is easily reached via the A46.
Multi-storey car parks sit just off the ring road, close to the cathedral and the main shopping streets. From there the compact centre is easy to explore on foot. Check the tariff boards and any time limits before you leave the car.
Expect slow traffic on the A45 and A46 around the city at rush hour, and near the stadium on match and event days. Allow extra time if you're heading to Birmingham Airport for a flight.
Get out of town

Castle towers, riverside grounds and a characterful county town with timber-framed streets.
Shakespeare's family homes, Tudor streets and boating on the River Avon, a short drive south-west.
A honey-coloured Cotswold wool town and the northern start of the Cotswold Way.
Historic colleges, world-famous libraries and riverside pubs, reached via the A46 and M40.
The home of the British Grand Prix, with an interactive museum beside the circuit.
